Sometimes when it comes to the paranormal, water is seen as the path or bridge that the dead can cross over. Water has it's own energy and always moving. We see water as alive, peaceful, nourishing, enchanting, revitalizing, and everlasting. And maybe sometimes, bridges have dark secrets that remain in the murky depths below.
The Siren Bridge
*The Siren Bridge has creepy, yet sad lore attached to it.
The story states that during a Halloween blizzard a family was driving over the bridge and hit an icy patch. Their car went over the bridge into the stream below and the father, mother, and little girl all were trapped in the vehicle; thus they drowned. Some witnesses have reported that when they drive over the bridge with the radio on, the station will cut out to static and then the voice of a young girl can be heard crying, "Mommy, mommy, I can't get out! Help me!" Once they are across the bridge, the station goes back to normal.
The Soo Line Bridge
*In the early 1900's, a bridge worker was with his co-workers working on the bridge, when he lost his grip and fell to his death below, hitting his head between two timbers. Subsequently his spirit is said to now linger at this location, and it seems as though Mr. Murphy is a peaceful ghost.
Indeed, a man really did fall to his death and his body was taken back to the nearby town of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Even though his physical body left years ago, his spirit may not have. The bridge in this picture (which is an "S" curved train bridge now a bike/walking trail) crosses over to the Banbury Place, which is also reported to be haunted.

The Phantom Cars of Caryville Road
*The 240th Avenue Bridge or the infamously dubbed name for it which is, "The Phantom Cars of Caryville Road" is out in the sticks near the small town of Caryville, WI.
As I mentioned in my Caryville blog, stories say that a young prom queen named "Jenny" was coming home one night years ago from prom. She was intoxicated and lost control of her red truck, crashed into the bridge and her vehicle dropped into the water below. The young woman drowned and now seems to be haunting this area. Drivers have been chased by a vehicle during the day and night, and it seems as if this vehicle wants to play chicken with them- even trying to run them off the road! Is it the dead prom queen or just simply vigilantes in the area who have grown tiresome with all the legend trippers and paranormal investigators....?
The Charlotte Mills Bridge
*Tales of a distraught woman who had suffered a loss, hence taking her life by jumping off the bridge into the river below, have filled this area for years. Now some say her restless spirit roams about this bridge, forever tied to this location. Some have seen glowing balls of light and others a spirit in the shape of a woman, who wanders amongst the bridge looking very side, dressed all in white.
In truth, there WAS a woman who jumped to her death off this bridge back in 1907. Her name was Charlotte Mills. After losing her father, then her husband to a sudden heart attack, and then losing both of her sons in the same month and the same year, she was overcome with grief and could bear it no longer. She laid out the clothes on her bed that she wanted to be buried in, then walked the couple miles from her friend's home to the bridge and took her life. Her body was found by her only surviving son, in the shallow part of the Black River near Christie, WI.
Bloody Bride Bridge
*On her wedding night, a young bride was killed on this bridge in an auto accident, or so the lore states. Months later, a police officer was driving this stretch when he saw a young woman who appeared to be in a wedding gown, standing in the middle of the bridge. He tried to swerve to not hit her, but it appeared that he didn't see her soon enough- he felt the impact of his patrol car hitting her. He got out of the car and looked around, but there was no body, no blood, no nothing. He then got back into his squad car and was about to drive off, until he looked in the rearview mirror and saw the ghost of the woman sitting in the backseat of his car! Now, this is truly becoming a widespread urban legend and dare. The dare is to park on the side of the road, then look in the backseat of your car to see if the young woman is sitting and staring at you. This takes the "woman in white" theory to a whole new level!
This bridge is actually on highway 66 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and the local police department refute the claims of an accident, stating they have never heard of any such tragedy.
The Old Train Bridge
*On a chilled December day in the early 1900's a train carrying passengers headed to see loved one's for Christmas had a horrible accident and the cars plummeted into the icy river. Only a few made it out alive. Ever since this day, fishermen have claimed to see people "coming out of the water" and walking up on to the shore, but then disappearing. There was a photo taken right after the accident and in it appears to be shadow people (to the left in the photo) that look a bit transparent walking amongst the living. Could these be spirits or just old photography making the images blurred or slightly transparent?

The Green Eyes Bridge
*Lore states that about a 100 years ago, a man killed his entire family and then took his own life by hanging himself from the bridge. His ghost has haunted the bridge ever since.
Another version is that a nearby African American man committed suicide off this bridge, but in another version he was killed as a result of a hate crime.
Now some residents and thrill seekers have claimed to see a dark silhouette of a man's body swinging back and forth from the girders of the bridge. Others have seen glowing green eyes staring at them on the bridge at night.
There has never been any proof that a murder or suicide(s) have happened, and the glowing green eyes have been chalked up to firefly larvae or "glow worms." No matter what though, these are some freaky stories!
